IT"S FINISHED!

Only a year after the Historic Fountain Reconstruction Comittee had their first meeting, Stewart Iron Works reports that the fountain has received its final coat of paint and is ready for delivery. The result is magnificent, and a testament to the fine craftmanship of the fabricators. Special thanks go out to Tom Willis of Stewart who obviously put his heart and soul into this project. From all of us in Babylon Village, thanks Tom!

The photo shows the beautiful bronze statue atop the fountain, which has been painted with a bronze-like finish, much like the original. Delivery is set for Monday, November 8, 2010 at 9:00am. A crane will be in front of the Historical Society building to lift the fountain from the truck bed and onto its base and new home. Bring your cameras, as the fountain will be covered shortly thereafter in order to protect it while the site work is completed over the winter.

A Memorial Day, 2011 dedication is planned, when the fountain will be formally unveiled and will become a part of village history once again. Please keep the donations coming in, as we are far short of our goal to complete the site work.

ALMOST COMPLETE!

These new photos from Stewart Ironworks show the progress of the fountain assembly. It has been primed and is awaiting the final bronze-like finish coats. Our excitement grows with every photo and email from Covington. The additional photo reveals the paint color match to the all-bronze statue of the lady who will watch our comings and goings around the Village into the next century. For a short video production on the fountain project presented by Stewart Ironworks, click on the youtube link and enjoy.
We should be accepting delivery by November 15, 2010. SEND IN YOUR DONATIONS and watch for preliminary site work at the Historical Society to begin shortly. Watch your step!

TWO NEW STATUE PHOTOS

Due to variations in the bronze patina of the fountain statue, we wanted to see how the statue would look in different lighting conditions. The folks at Stewart Iron Works were kind enough to send these photos with and without a flash. It seems the statue will look beautiful in all types of light, and will take on a life of her own regardless of time of day, or amount of sun or clouds.

LIGONIER FOUNTAIN HOME SAFE AND SOUND

The Ligonier fountain has been returned this week to its original location in the town square after some refurbishing and a new coat of paint. The Ligonier fountain was shipped to Covington, KY and disassembled. The parts have been moulded and the casting process continues. Sincere thanks go out to Paul Fry and all the people of Ligonier for their generosity and help in making our fountain a reality. Our"sister" fountain will be an exact duplicate of the one that was donated to the town of Ligonier by their Fire Department in 1921.

MOULDING AND SOME FINISHED CASTINGS

Photos from Stewart show a glimpse of the intricate moulding and a few of the finished cast iron pieces that will make up our Village Fountain.

VILLAGE FOUNTAIN TAKES SHAPE

We have received a photo from Stewart Iron Works showing the completed statue on June 4, 2010. The bronze casting of the 36" tall woman feeding a dove was completed by New England Sculpture Service in Chelsea, MA. It is now at the Stewart facility in Covington, KY, where work on the cast iron fountain base continues. Other photos show parts being moulded and cast individually, for eventual assembly. The detail is incredible. It is exciting to see the process actually take place, and to think that the fountain that will be a part of our village once again is indeed becoming a reality.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO DONATE, FUNDS ARE STILL NEEDED!

1890's FOUNTAIN FUNDRAISER

On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, almost 113 years to the day that the Babylon Women's Exchange received approval from the Board of Trustees to erect a fountain, we are having a grand fundraiser at the Venetian Yacht Club in Babylon Village. It will be held from 6:30 to 10:30pm, and the cost is $75 per person. After expenses, all monies raised will go directly to the Babylon Village Historic Reconstruction Project. Cocktail hour, open bar, and a buffet dinner will be provided, along with entertainment, raffles and a live auction. Please make plans to attend as this will be an event not to be missed. Tickets are available at ProtoDental and the Westcott Group. Call for more information at 669-2230. We will come together as a community to show our support for this historic and meaningful addition to the Village.
